The Japanese tea ceremony is called Chanoyu or Chado in Japanese. It is a choreographed custom of preparing and serving Matcha, a Japanese powdered green tea, and traditional Japanese sweets, called Wagashi: an array of bitter and sweet. Preparation requires absolute knowledge and complete attention to the predefined movements as well as season of the year and occasion. The process is not about drinking tea, but is about aesthetics, preparing tea from one's heart through purity and tranquility. The relationship between the Teishu, the Kyaku, and the utensils must be respectful in order to achieve the hope of harmony.
