The kimono is the proper attire worn by the host and the guests. It's shape and cut complement the atmosphere and graceful movements of the ceremony. Some occasions, including a memorial service, prescribe the recommended color and pattern of the kimono. No matter what, the guest must acquire a good taste and common sense when choosing what to wear. If the traditional kimono is unavailable, Western clothing is the next option, as long as the fabric around the knees is loose.
